Story of Ah Hock

I am Ah Hock and I am the eldest brother of my family. My father had just passed away... Everybody cried at least once, even me. My family now depends on me as I am the bread winner of the family now. It is quite pressurizing... I worked in Mr Chong's store and everyday I have to deliver goods on a bike, oh man, my bike got stuck today and I am late on my delivery. Hope Mr Chong doesn't fire me.

Another problem just came up, Ah Kee wants to have a job like me. He is jealous of me being able to work while he stays in school and get scolded by his teacher. Problem after problem. But this problem was quite easy to solve. All I did was tell Ah Kee that when he studies, he would get a better job than I did. But seriously, it is true, people are finding smart employees. Soon, I hope everyone can take care of themselves and even better, Mother.

AHHHHH!!!! Scolded again!!!! Come on!!! Just a piece of homework. just one piece... Oh My Gosh... Why can't I go to work like Ah Hock. He was having so much fun, as so he said yesterday. Let ask him later after I go back home.

What do he mean by I have to study? I have to study and get scolded by my teacher when he get to have so much fun riding the bike and delivering goods? I want to work and I don't care!

And he talk so big yesterday. Huh? What do he mean by he is talking big? He doesn't want everyone to worry that when he fails he may get fired... We get a better job when we are good in our studies?
oh... I didn't know that...

All right, I will study and I will help him, my eldest brother.

Story of Ah Kee

I was upset as I was not accepted by Ah Hock to go to work. I needed to help the family but I can't! However, he said something promising, that was that I was going to be the chief of the family when I grow up as I had proper education that my brother does not have. I had discovered that I was more privileged than Ah Hock. He said that education was important and I was one of the few that was privileged. So I decided to do my job as a student to study hard and get a good job in future. From Secondary school to JC, From JC to University. I managed to get a good job and earned a lot of money. Now I am manager of my own company.

our family was always together until that one fateful day, my husband died. I lost all hope in my family after that. the shock from my husband's death plummeted me into depression. I have always had little hope for my family. now ,It is going to be worse. with no breadwinner in the house, how are we going to survive? I did the next thing an Asian family would do: let my oldest son, Ah Hock, take over the family. he agreed to sacrifice his studies for that and I was very greatful for that. the others must still continue to study before they can get a job even though we might not have enough money for it. with Ah Hock working at the provision shop and me wash clothes, we may have enough to continue on. the ordeal passed in the blink of an eye, soon my kids have all grown up into adults. I am very happy to see them like this, my job as a mother was well done after all.

Story of Ah Hock

Hi I am Ah Hock, I was pursuing on my education till one fateful day. Our father passed away. He was our breadwinner of our family.We cannot make him re spawn. What's done is done. We cannot moan, moaning is useless. I have to stay positive.Now he is gone, I need to take over him. I know that my family needs me, I am their only hope now. I had to stop studying. On his funeral day, Mr Chong, an owner of the provision shop, asked me if I would be going back to school. I told him," Mr Chong,I have to leave school and have to look for work". Since I am the eldest brother, I have to work. My younger brothers and sisters, Ah Kee, Ah Seng, Ah Lin and Ah Nya also wanted to work too. However, I told them that they were too young to work especially for Ah Kee who was very enthusiastic to work. However, for a better future, they need to carry on with their education so that they can get better jobs thus better pay than the job I have now. Since Mother will be working, I need to help her to support the family financial issues. My younger siblings remain positive. Ah Nya told us that she will ask the school for free text books and fees. Ah Seng even promised mother that he would work hard in school! I know that most of the siblings want to help me more but they cannot work now. I am now the new "Father" or the man of the family now.It is my responsibility to make sure I earn enough money for my family, to make sure that my younger siblings go to school on time and complete their education.
